Rapper Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, better known by his stage name 21 Savage, was born on October 22, 1992, and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States.
He was born in London and, at the age of seven, relocated to Atlanta with his mother. With the release of the collaborative EP Savage Mode (2016) with Metro Boomin, he gained notoriety after releasing two mixtapes in 2015.
Its singles “X” (featuring Future) and “No Heart” peaked in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, and 21 Savage’s profile later rose with a guest appearance on Drake’s 2016 single “Sneakin’.” Then, in January 2017, he committed to a recording deal with Epic Records.
Issa Album, 21 Savage’s first studio album, reached number two in the U.S. Following the release of the joint album Without Warning (2017) with Offset and Metro Boomin, whose lead track “Ric Flair Drip” peaked at number 13 on the Hot 100 despite not featuring him, Billboard 200’s lead single “Bank Account” peaked at number 12 on the Hot 100. The 2017 song “Rockstar” by Post Malone, which peaked at number one on the Hot 100 and received nominations for Record of the Year and Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 2019 Grammy Awards, featured 21 Savage.
The popular single “A Lot” (with J. Cole), which won Best Rap Song at the 2020 Grammy Awards, was released from his second album, I Am > I Was (2018), which became his first U.S. number-one album.
The much-awaited third album from 21 Savage, Savage Mode II (2020), a follow-up to their 2016 EP with Metro Boomin, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and produced the U.S. top 10 songs “Runnin” and “Mr. Right Now” (featuring Drake).
When Drake’s song “Jimmy Cooks” from his album Honestly, Nevermind debuted at number one on the Hot 100 in 2022, 21 Savage was a featured artist. This was 21 Savage’s second number-one on the list and his first number-one debut.’
On February 3, 2019, ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detained 21 Savage. He entered the country in July 2005 as a British citizen who unlawfully overstayed an H-4 visa set to expire in 2006. He was given bond on February 12 and freed the following day pending the results of an expedited deportation hearing that was initially set for April 9 but was later postponed indefinitely. According to 21 Savage’s attorneys, he had been living legally in the country for a number of years prior to the 2005 H-4 visa.

Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph was born to Heather Carmillia Joseph and Kevin Cornelius Emmons at Newham University Hospital in the Plaistow neighborhood of London.
His father is from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and his mother is from Dominica. Both of his parents are British citizens with Caribbean ancestry. His father, who works for Westminster City Council, and his twin sisters, dancers Kyra and Jayda Davis, continue to reside in London; nevertheless, his paternal grandfather was Haitian.
21 Savage’s parents divorced, and the family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, when he was seven years old. He traveled back to the UK in June 2005 when he was 12 years old to attend his uncle’s funeral. He stayed there for a month before returning to Atlanta on an H-4 visa on July 22, 2005, which supposedly expired a year later.
After that, the mother of 21 Savage started dating British ex-pat and endocrinologist Dr. Amsu Anpu, with whom she had further kids. Quantivayus (“Tay-Man”), one of his brothers, was killed in a shooting following an attempted narcotics deal.
